Show 5 - The Hits Show

Three songs this week that all deserve to be massive. You'll catch yourself singing along very quickly to every one, and the melodies will stick with you and play away in the back of your mind for a long time to come.

Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding for tonight's star acts:

David William - Come & Go

Lena - Step On The Gas

Amplifico - Combing My Soul For More

Once again, if you liked anything you heard on Show 5, please visit the artists' websites and drop them a note telling them. Be sure to mention that Three From Leith sent you !

Apologies for the noise during my discussion of Lena - I have to record the vocals into my iRiver as my old Pentium 2 antique can't cope with 'live' recording, and occasionally the hard drive spins up to speed and causes a bit of a whine which is picked up by the mic.

(Since recording this week's show, I had the following further information from Lena's collaborator / writing partner Niclas Johannesen:

"[Lena's album is] released in Denmark on October 17. Can also tell you that Step On The Gas has been released as radio single in Denmark and is added at playlists on both the biggest stations P3 and P4 on national Danish Radio (DR) and it's on hot rotation at a commercial station called Radio Mojn in Southern Jutland."

Show 4 - The Edinburgh Bands

This time it's local....

Everything's been done in a bit of a rush this week as life has managed to get in the way and alter my usual plans. But nevertheless the Three From Leith podcast is proud to bring you three Edinburgh bands who've really opened my eyes.

I'm amazed at the wealth and breadth of the talent that exists here in Edinburgh. I knew there were bands playing, but I didn't know just how professional and talented they were ! I'd been sitting here thinking that most of the talent was based in Glasgow after listening to what Mark at the Tartanpodcast was showcasing. I couldn't have been more wrong ! That'll teach me to be so blind to what's going on around me...

I'm therefore really happy to be able to bring these bands to the fore and to get them out there. So if you're a band based in or around Edinburgh, or know someone who's in one, drop me a line and introduce yourself / yourselves. Why not email me a track or send me a CD (email me for the address). There are more local band shows coming soon on Three From Leith, so make sure you book your place on them !

So please enjoy the following bands, and if you like what you hear please visit the artists' websites and drop them a line. I know that they'd be chuffed to bits to hear from you and what you think of their music - so go on; make their day ! Tell 'em that Grant from Three From Leith sent you...

Triptamine - I Am Abstract

Opal Sky - Special Suzie

Slowjet - Black Cross

Special thanks to Denis Kitchen for the background music (Cebrella) and intro (Groove IT)

There will definitely be a lot more coming from Edinburgh bands soon, plus something very special which will be exclusive to Three From Leith, so stay subscribed and don't miss it !

And remember to leave your comments below and let me know what you think. Say something. I dare ya !!

Show 3 - Finding a voice...

In which Tigger tries to find his voice, and Piglet tries to help him

This week I thought I should try and overcome my natural shyness and talk a wee bit more. Of course, sitting talking to yourself doesn't help when it comes to being a bit more chatty. We east-coast Scots are brought up only to speak when spoken to; so blethering to fresh air comes as a bit of a challenge !

I was ably assisted by my gorgeous assistant Jasna, in whose 5yr-old eyes I'm just the best !

Let me know what you think; should I:

(a) keep talking, or

(b) sit back, let the music do all the talking and refer you to the bands' websites through the shownotes so you can find out about them for yourselves ?

I'm torn - I like the flow of the music when it's completely uninterrupted, but when I listen to podcasts I like to know who's playing whilst I listen. And talking of who's playing, tonight you heard from:

The Rantings of Eva - Infrared

Karma - Life

Santa Dog - Delicate

If you liked any of the artists you heard on the show, please go to their website and drop them a note telling them. Remember to mention where you heard their music ! Keep on supporting them; without their dedication, hard work and talent you'd be listening to 15 minutes of silence.

Please also leave comments here on the site if you have anything to say about what you think of the show, good or bad. It's your words that encourage me to keep podcasting.

(apologies for the rather noisy speech this week; the mic was brushing on my shirt !)

Comments problem resolved

I've been made aware that there was a problem which was preventing people from posting comments on the site (thanks Kari and Gabor !) Hopefully this has now been resolved - apologies for that. Of course, if you still have a problem please email me.

Finniston spotlight show

The excellent Glasgow band Finniston, who I played on show #2, had a spotlight show recently on the Tartanpodcast. Pure aural bliss ! Listen to it here. They've also got a new EP coming out on the 20th September, so start saving now !

Show 2

Welcome to Three From Leith #2 ! Recorded on a beautiful, sunny Autumn day (and we don't get many of those in Scotland !) in 'Leith Sur Mer', with the birds twittering outside, there was only one song to kick it off -

Kasino - Sunshine

Feeling slightly more relaxed and mellow as the sun sank, I settled - for your listening pleasure - on:

Finniston - Peace of Mind

And as the darkness settled like a blanket over the Shore, it was time to crank it up and get raucous with:

el Dog - Glass of Water

If you liked any of the music in the show, please drop by the artists' sites and tell them, or perhaps help support them and purchase their CD. Be sure and mention that you heard them here on Three From Leith.

Your comments on today's show are welcome; either leave them here or email them to threefromleith@gmail.com If there are any bands listening who'd like to send their music in for future shows, email me a file with the word Submission in the subject line. Alternatively, if you know of any bands who might be interested, please let them know.

Finally, huge thanks to Gary from Kasino (visit his excellent blog Bigmouth Strikes Again), Mark at the Tartanpodcast for his help and support, and to Denis Kitchen for the theme music, Groove IT.

See you all again next week.
